Default wierd RPMs

a little while ago, i started my car from not being started the day before. i know for a fact that when the engine is cold from the weather outside, when i first start it, the RPMs rest at about 1500 but when it finally warms up, it drops back down to about 900 idle.now my confusion on the subject is that one morning after that, i was in a hurry to get to work and i just cranked it up and left. as i was driving i noticed the RPMs never dropped from 1500 they actually rose to about 2000 and stayed there even while i was stopped at the light, and when i pulled over and parked it to check about it, the RPMs then rose to about 3500 without me being on the gas. 15 mins later the RPMs dropped to thier normal range but when they did, the Check Engine Soon light came on. anybody think they might have a clue to what the problem might be? Thanks, Rome

Could very well be the TPS, but the IAC could too. I'd pull codes if I were you. Being a 93, you can do it with a paperclip. The procedure is in Techinfo.
