Default 96-99 hoods

I know the 92-95 hood is made of steel and the newer bonnies have an aluminum one.
What about the 96-99 hoods?

92-95 have Plastic fenders (a good thing) and steel hoods.
96-99 have steel fenders and steel hoods.
2000+ have steel fenders (I think) and aluminum hoods.

i believe that the hood is the same from 92-99, the grille is the thing that is different to accomodiate the newer headlights

Totally different part number. The profile above the headlights is different. Grilles are also not interchangeable between hood generations.
