Rod hitting...

No, but it would create a vacuum leak. May want to double check to see how many o-rings need to be in there, as I am going off of knowledge from my 00 Grand Prix, but it'* still the Series II motor so I don't see why it would be different as I believe all 97-03 motors need 2 o-rings in that area.

I checked, and the new ones at Oreilly don't come with ANY orings, and he tried to give me a grommet?
Now it'* snowed like 3 inches(in TN that'* cause for panic hahaa) and I'm garageless so I can do nothing right now. :/
Could my EGR valve be stuck, also giving me the 171, 300, and 102 codes?

Did you look down in the bottom of the PVC housing for the O-rings? I only recall there being 1 O-ring on my '99 L36 Bonne... but my memory is not real keen on that point. What I DO remember is that EVERY time I remove a PVC from these, the O-ring sticks in the PVC hole... and subsequent replacement of the PVC (after shaking it) jams the O-ring deeper...
This is usually followed by a "Doh!" and me getting a hook of some sort out of the toolbox to fish the O-ring back out.
I have also seen that the O-rings don't seem to come with the PVC anymore, as many of the PVCs are super universal. IIRC, my O-rings came with the Dorman UIM... which is a pretty expensive way to go if you don't need a new UIM. I don't know of anywhere to get the O-rings, so I'd likely snag them from the local Pick-a-Part.
Actually, I think they might include O-rings with the PVC housing kit... They are hardish to find... usually in the HELP section... but have that top piece that I ALWAYS seem to break. I think I might have a virtually complete kit in the garage.

New to the forums. Just another question. My Bonne started knocking and I know its something to do with the crank, but I wanted to know if there was something other than a "spun" bearing that would knock rhythmically? Like can it go bad and not necessarily be spun? Thanks everyone

The only O ring I see is POSSIBLY a smaller one up top where the MAP sits(might just be the bottom of MAP though) and there'* a larger one sitting around the PCV housing. Is there supposed to be a smaller around bottom of PCV?
AND in the cold just now, I broke the two prongs that slide on sides of MAP sensor. Is that going to be a problem??

In fact, that picture seems to show two O-rings... the larger must be jammed into the top part of the housing.

I would ask this in your own new post to get the best response. Don't want to hijack threads, makes it real hard to keep up with whos who while we're helping this person out with his issues. Could be a noisy lifter, FYI.

IIRC, the O-ring I remember was the size of the PVC at nearly its widest... it was just below the middle ridge, so that the PVC sat on the ring, sealing the upper and lower halves.
It could be, depending on which broke... when I broke mine the first time, I was still able to slip the MAP back on... but the second time, I couldn't. These get brittle, so it don't take much to break them... and like I mentioned, there is a kit to replace it... http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...ntifier=209245

Gosh, this random misfire/running lean/low voltage maf is the hardest thing i've had to figure out. I really don't wanna take it to someone, but man...
