Default 97 1870 code Trasmission Slip

Got this code ( 1870 code Trasmission Slip) the other day, went to AAMCO (had a coupon for $99 flush with filter and gasket), there were no shavings or significant discoloration to the fluid, the light went out but he said it will probobly come back in 100 miles or so. He also told me I will probobly need a NEW trassmission when the light does come back on and he gave an estimate of $2200. Is he high on crack or is this what it would really cost, I would go to a local guy if I actually had to do it but I would still need to source a tranny. Any ideas out there. Thanx

Humboldt County,
That might explain it (no offense but I am sure you know your location has a reputation for a certain other illicit substance)

2200 is cheap..well not cheap but NORMAL if not higher if doing a complete rebuild by a reputable shop..labor is around 1200+ usually and if they are replacing torque converter, diff etc it gets expensive.

if they are just doing a basic rebuild and skipping the diff yeah that is excessive.

my trans was about 2200 which included a torque converter, and a few other bonus parts that are not normally standard. Labor charge was 60 an hour.

here is a receipt:
