Chevy 350
I was wondering if anyone thinks it would be humanly possible to transplant a 350 Chevy from an old Caprice into a 92 Bonne SE? I believe there is enough room under the hood for the engine to fit. I know I'd also have to replace the tranny and a few other things(i.e. suspension).

Only problem is mating it to a Front Wheel Drive transmission, and possibly finding mount locations. To be honest your probably better off finding a wrecked Cadillac and taking the Front Wheel Drive engine (Northstar would be sweet), and matching transmission (4T80E) and swapping them in. Theres really no way to convert a Bonneville to Rear Wheel drive (at least from what I can see). Youd have to do some SERIOUS body reworking of the firewall to make room for a rear wheel drive tranny, and you'd also have to make your own drive shaft tunnel, swap the rear axle, etc, etc.
Does anyone know if a regular 350 has the same bolt pattern as a Northstar? If it does you may get lucky and get away with just finding a 4T80E FWD transmission that can handle the torque of a V8.

Yea, I did some thinking on that tonight and with what mechanical knowledge I have I dont think I could do something that serious but thanks for the info it never occured to me about the Northstar. I'm gonna try to find some info about the bolt patterns because even buying an engine out of a wrecked Caddy would cost more than I'm willing to spend on this little idea.

I agree completely! The L67 is a bad *** performer, with TONS of aftermarket mods and parts available. I'm not saying it wouldnt be nice to have a Northstar motor and tranny, but say you do it, and spend all that time in R&D and installing it, and then you get it in, working, what do you have? A stock 300 Horsepower STS motor, with very limited aftermarket accessories and performance parts availabe. L67 on the other hand, will drop right in, bolt for bolt (Unless your pulling the motor from a Grand Prix, than you simply need to change around some motor mounts on the block), but it would still be MUCH more straightforward and easier than a V8, and you could get the same if not better performance, and ALOT less weight ratio. The 4T80E is a glorified boat anchor in itself.
Just my opinion, but if I ever swap, it will be from a 98+ SSEi and thats it. Not trying to discourage you, if you have the drive for a V8, go for it!!! I'm sure alot of us would be very interested in the transplant, but for practicality, save yourself the thousands of dollars and hours, and do a L67 putting all the time and money you woulda spent on the V8 swap into it, and you'll have a 10 second Corvette runner

Yes an l67 is a great option and now comes the fun part get the "best" sc and you can eventually reach the 600hp range. This would be what you guys are looking for. LOL already checked it out. So l67 will always be a great option. If you want a V8 e-mail me at domesticperformance@attbi.com and ill set you up if you can get 25 people together who also want one. I already have all the info. And the ability to make it happen. Currently there are just not enough customers to make it worth companies while to make parts for the Bonneville. It’* sad but true. BUT I am capable of getting almost anything for our cars with small support so if you really want to make it happen I can help you do it. Oh the v8 will not fit properly in the GP or it would have already happened. It can be done but not the way I can do it to the Bonneville. I have some new connections and one is a company who makes bush league engines. Soooooo V8 CAN be done and if you want more info I would be glad to share “some”.

It took me a lot of figuring and it just isn't feasible for me. Whats is though is I have a friend who has a friend who rebuilds performance engines and will happily do mine for under 2Gs. So the stock 3.8L Gen 1 engine will become what?! A 350 horsepower monster?! Yessiree. Let you know how it turns out when I get it done. So much for the V-8. Bah!

Go to the zz performance site and look into the sc kit they have for the series-II non sc. it would be easy to use on your engine. I can get you 300hp tranny that will bolt right on.
