Default Removing shifter

Can any one help me out, and tell me how I could go about removing the Gear shifter handle. I'm trying to get at the plactic casing that fits around it, and the handle needs removing, any help would be great!

Apply your emergency brake, then turn key to on (not start) press the regular brake pedal and shift to 1st.

Looking at the front of the shifter under the button there is a slit. Using a small screwdriver or pick gently pull the clip about 1/4 inch out of the handle. Push shifter button and wiggle while pulling up.
