Default Compatible-with-everything ATF?

It'* almost time for a transmission fluid/filter change, and with the mileage getting up there, I've decided to make the jump to DEXRON-VI.

But, I always see that most (if not all) of the ATF bottles on the shelves say they're somehow compatible with everything. For example, a Valvoline bottle says:
Did ATF makers recently obsolete all the standards, or would it be better to try to find a bottle of something that'* only DEXRON-VI-compatible?

being compatible with pretty much any fluid means that:

the fluid passed every test and met every specification necessary for every certification.

being compatible with only 1 fluid means that:

it passed everything necessary for the 1 certification.

more often than not, the fluid that can be used in everything is the better fluid.

Valvoline Maxlife and Amsoil are the two that I've seen that cover most of the bases. Royal Purple may also.

Good point. I had the opposite viewpoint: jack of all trades, master of none.

I guess I'll just go with whatever compatible fluid I can find.
