Default airbag light

now that i got my dash lights working, my airbag light has not gone off. does this mean something is wrong, both of the wires under the dashes are connected, and the sensor modual under the seat is also connected, however it was really corroded, prolly from all the water that was under the seat, could this have made it go bad. anyone else ever had this happen?

Won't go off? You mean is always lit or never comes on, even when you start the car? I'm not familiar with the sensor under the seat. It must have moved after 92. If it got soaked, it may have failed. Before you mess with it, make sure the battery is disconnected.

You could try a junkyard sensor, but I would be wary of used SIR parts. I'd hate for your bags to go off when you start the car. Anyone know how much a new sensor is? Or are there codes for the SIR?

It means it has problem and most likely won't work when it should. Remotly possible that it will go off spontaneously, but not likely.

This is tricky here so be carefull.

The Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (sir) system has its own power and will still work with the battery negative disconnected. The wiring and connectors are of better quality than the rest of the car because of low signal current that may be present in a crash. Remember this a chemical reaction that inflates the air bag.

To disable the sir system:
Pull the air bag fuse.
Remove the drivers side lower dash panel and look for the yellow 2 way connector below the steering wheel. Remove the security pin and pull the connector apart.
Remove the passenger side lower dash trim and look for the yellow connector to the extreme right under the glove box.

Now its safe to pull the module out and try cleaning the connections. Try contact cleaner first, the connections have a special coating for low signal loss and you dont want to polish this off.
