Default droppin tranny fluid mad style!!

Hey guys, I'm losing tranny fluid pretty stinkin fast. it was progressional, but now its getting real bad. There'* soo much under the engine that i can't really tell where its coming from- whats actually leaking. If you were to look down from an aerial view, the main leakage is coming from the front passenger corner of the engine area- like if it were a square, the major drip is from the same corner the battery is in.

Whats the potential problem here? What would most likely leak first? the pan/tray, or main gasket? i need to power wash it and find out where its actually coming from, but a heads up would be nice from you experts. with the miles i have on my car, its not worth pouring any money into, unless i can change a simple gasket myself- i'm not having the tranny rebuilt or anything.

Any ideas? any symptoms ringing a bell?

Thanks guys, you rock!

jeff

well, it doesn't seem like its coming from that far forward. It be great if that were the problem, but i think I'd notice that. Perhaps the same hose, but where it connects to the tranny?

thanks,

jeff

no kiddin, so i can get it replaced for free?? Even now- this old??

if so, I don't have a Catylitic convertor anymore- just a flex pipe in its place. Can a dealer work on my car since its not technically legal?

Shoot, if this can all get fixed, thatd be awesome!

That recall is dated January of 1996. I don't see an expiration date on it, but the best way to find out would be to call and ask. I'm not a 100% certain on the cat issue. I think they may work on it, but letting you drive it away in that condition is something else. There may even be civili liabilities to you personally for modifying the exhaust that way. I'd buy a universal replacement cat. They aren't all that expensive.

I believe they can work on your tranny, but they can't do anything with the exhaust in that condition. If you were getting say, a tail pipe, they would have to put a cat on too. But if they aren't working on the exhaust, all they can do is recommend you get one put on. I could be wrong though.

your best bet would be to call the dealer or pontiac and see if that recall is still good. If it is a recall then they should honor the claim. after all it is a saftey issue, hense the reason for the recall

Here'* a link to some FAQs regarding tampering with the exhaust system, and what muffler shops have to follow. Will the dealer do the same? Only way to find out for sure may be to call them and find out. Another option is if you're good at working on cars, and it'* still under warranty, maybe they'll give you the parts to install yourself.

I' cut my cat off and welded in a straight pipe. Then my donut inbetween the rear manifold and DP took a dump and only way I could get one was to custom order one from the dealer. Well when I went to pick it up I figured Hell might as well get them to put it in. Well long story short, they didn't even say one word about the cat not being there.
