Hi All -

Just wondering if anyone'* ever heard of the solder connections in the RKE modules breaking down and opening over time. I have this problem in my TGP (apparently it is a common problem with the early 90'* W bodies - maybe others too?), and was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience with their car. I just bought some secondhand RKE fobs for mine, and when I do the programming routine, the system doesn't respond to any of the buttons being pressed on either (both) fob(*). The fobs have batteries, not sure yet if they're good or not, but that will probably be my next route to get it working.

Thanks

No, but if the RKE module has the same kind of ribbon connectors between circuit boards that the dash gauge cluster has, the pins can get a little oxidized in the connectors and break the electrical connection between pin and connector socket, though not the solder itself. Simply unplugging the ribbons and plugging them back in again worked for my gauge cluster, so if I suspected my RKE module of doing the same thing, I'd try opening it up and reassembling it again just for yucks. (I have no idea if you _can_; I don't know what it looks like...)
