Default sounds like a diesel

:?:

I'm working with a 93 / 3800 / series 1 . Problem I'm having is a dieseling sound coming from the waterpump side of the engine. I pulled the belt and started the engine ( still there ) so I know it isn't a belt driven acc. Anybody else come across this problem??? by the way the motor has over 180,000 miles on it..
Thanks

Check the harmonic balancer/crank pulley. Sounds like the rubber dampener gave up. You'll see cracks in the rubber backing.
