Default Unplugging ERG stopped my smoking problem

I ran the car for hours and the car still smoke when I reved it up and let it idle. Finally it started to surge when holding the throttle down. I suspected the ERG right away. I did not get a check engine light. I shut the engine down and unpluged the EGR and started it back up. The smoking stopped and the surging stopped. My question is , IS the EGR bad or do I have some sort of UIM gasket problem. I did all the modification to the stove pipe and UIM before the engine install. The exhaust fianlly smells real clean. I get no check engine light with the EGR unplugged. Has anyone ever had this problem? Car is a 1995 BOnnevile SLE witha 97 GP engine.

What I am saying is that the egr is the cause of the smoking and it does not do it when it is unpluged. New info....Can the EGR do this or is there an underlying problem??? Has anyone else had this issue? This has been very frustrating to finally stop it from smoking, however I just need know if a bad egr can do this ?? I want to make sure I correct the problem?? The links you sent me are about the smoking issue, but now I found the egr casuing it...

Thank you
