Do you smell any gas under the hood? Did you replace the line that you mentioned in your first post, that pulled off easily? Loose connections will be a problem.

Well, if you are sure all of your lines are good and the connections of those lines are good, you probably need to check the EVAP purge Solenoid or actuator as mentioned in the the thread you posted in your other post.

Yes....page two.

Turn OFF the ignition switch.
Remove the EVAP purge solenoid. Refer to EVAP Canister Purge Solenoid.
Lightly tap the purge solenoid and (if applicable) the vacuum switch on a clean work area looking for carbon particles exiting either of the vacuum ports.
If no carbon release is evident, reinstall the components and continue with the DTC P0440 diagnostic table. If carbon is being released from either component, continue with this service procedure.

These pictures are from my 96 Regal.

Do the vacuum lines connected to your purge valve solenoid look like these?

The purge valve solenoid vacuum lines need to be connected as in the picture or the purge valve vacuum switch will see vacuum.
The purge valve vacuum switch can only see vacuum when the PCM pulses, turns on, the purge valve solenoid.

Below is the only picture I have of my purge valve vacuum switch..
In this picture you can’t see the two wire electrical connector that plugs in on the backside.

my 2 lines both come from the right, my one line goes to the same place yours does, into a T connector then into that aluminum block, my other goes down towards a Evap service port looking thing then towards my cannister.. heres some pics

Good pictures.

Ok your vacuum lines look like they are connected to the purge valve solenoid like they should be.
If you look closely where the rear vacuum line connects you will see “CAN” (for canister port) molded on the valve.

Where is your charcoal canister mounted and do you see a vacuum switch in the line going to it?

Any one else have a 96 SE?

another thing to consider is actually removing the canister to inspect it for cracks or possibly having fuel in it.

All these suggestions are good, so let'* focus on this from the basics and move forward, since you have already inspected and repaired your vacuum lines. I do suggest you pull the vapor cannister and inspect it for cracks and/or leaks and also check to see if it smells like gas. Any of those three mean you need a new cannister and possibly a new purge valve solenoid.

So, DTC P0440 - Is set if one or more of the following conditions are met:

- A stuck or closed EVAP purge solenoid,
- A stuck open EVAP vent solenoid,
- A disconnected or damaged EVAP purge line or vent hose
- A leaking fuel cap
- A leaking fuel fill neck

Here'* a picture of my EVAP vapor canister (outside of the car, lol). It is normally located under my Airbox and PCM case in my '97. I believe that yours should be in a similar spot.

The purge solenoid is the rectangularish valve on top of the cannister. The valve that Ron350 pointed out to you in your picture is the vent solenoid. Check these per Echo'* instructions above.

Check these items and then get back to us.
