Default Quick Q

Okay, funds unexpectedly cleared up (a little bit), and I may have found myself a good deal on a bonnie. I do have a quick q though, based on a quick phone call with the current owner. I haven't paid too much attention to topics on L27'* (sorry guys ), so I don't know if this one has popped up.

Anyhew, the guy said that the car runs rough, but if he pulls a line off of the fuel pressure regulator, it smoothes right out. and as soon as he puts it back on, it starts running rough again.

could that be a failed FPR? i've never heard of them failing that way before. it almost sounds more like a vacuum issue, but i figured I'd ask. this guy is asking WAY less than what the car is worth (even though it'*' got the column shift, and I'm set on a center console, my dear wife pointed out that at the price he'* asking, i would be an idiot to pass it up. and she'* right.

so anyhew, that'* all i've got to go on. it'* a few hours away, so i can't test anything (don't ask ) what do you think?

Sounds like the fpr....easy to change....you will have to chew him down an extra $42.50 to cover the cost of a new one...good luck with the new bonnie...

You should be able to test if it is a vacuum problem (doubtful) by simply putting you finger over the vacuum hose when it'* removed.

I suppose it might be something like a bad IAC valve where the pintle is stuck too far in, or maybe the IAC passage is full of carbon, so that when you add some air to the IM by pulling off the FPR line, the idle smooths up. But whether IAC or FPM or something else, it doesn't sound like anything too major or expensive and if you've got a good deal....what the hey...it'* a Bonneville.

my thoughts exactly - on all accounts

my mother lives down near the area it'* in (middle of no-where, indiana), and she'* driving out to check it out for me tomorrow. if all goes well, I'll be heading down there myself in a few weekends to pick up a new bonnie...

i'll let you all know how it goes...
