Default A/C PROBLEM

I HAVE A 1995 BONNEVILLE SSEi. WHEN I BOUGHT THIS CAR I WAS ONLY GETTING THE A/C. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER TO SEE WHY I WAS NOT GETTING ANY HEAT AND THEY TOLD ME THAT SOMEONE HAD TIED THE FLAUATING DOOR OPEN WITH SOME WIRE AND THAT'* WHY I WAS ONLY GETTING AIR. WELL IT WAS ALMOST WINTER SO I TOLD THEM TO TAKE THE WIRE OUT. NOW I'M ONLY GETTING HEAT. THERE'* SOME KINDA OF GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT THAT'* WHERE THAT DOOR IS I WAS TOLD. IT'* NOW HOT HERE IN STOCKTON AND THE DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE $1200.00 TO REPAIR. ANY ONE HAVE ANY IDEAS AS HOW I CAN GET THIS A/C PROBLEM FIX A LITTLE CHEAPER THAN THAT?

Hey welcome to the club, couple pointers for ya, 1) Post issues in the correct forum, it'll get better visability there. This should be in the 1992-1999 forum 2.) Turn your caps lock off when you post, it'* annoying, and also concidered "shouting". 3.) Put the yr and trim level of your car in the signiture area of your profile

Now, onto your problem.

Sounds like your air mix actuator door is shot. I dunno how mechanically inclined you are, but this is possible to fix yourself, but it'* pretty agonizing. Other wise, if the dealer wants $1,200 to fix it, try out a local shop, not a dealer, the price to fix would prolly be half of the dealer price.

We've had a few ppl around here fix their own before, and if that'* the route you wanna go, I'm sure they'll see this and chime in

HenOra, can you put your year and trim level in your signature?

And try a search on "redneck fix" with me as the author. I went the cheap and easy route on my OTHER bonneville.

Default Air Mix Actuator for a 1995 Bonneville SSEi

Thanks Lakeville SSEi for that bit of info. Sorry about all caps. I'm new to the forum site.

Can anyone tell where I can get a Air Mix Actuator and how much one cost and do anyone have instruction on how to replace the actuator door. Just in case my husband try to tackle it.

Thank you
HenOra

Let'* try a bit of troubleshooting first. When you adjust the temperature with the glove compartment door and inner liner removed, and look through the little hole in the metal structuaral brace with a flashlight, can you see the actuator trying to move?

I'd hate to see you try the airmix actuator (which requires the removal of the entire dashboard) and find that it'* another problem.

A new air-mix actuator is about $80 from the dealer. There are several posts here on the subject with very detailed writeups on how to do this job. You do NOT have to remove the dash (like I did!) Please try the search function for air-mix door or air-mix actuator and you should find all you need.
