Which ICM?
Alright, so the mechanic told my dad that heat over the years has caused the ignition module to fail, and for them to replace it, it would cost X number of dollars. I was thinking I could save some cash by bringing them one from NAPA or similar, so I've got a couple of questions.
1) Which ICM should I use for my 92 SE? There'* 10 of them displayed on NAPA'* website all with different prices, what'* the difference?.
http://www.napaonline.com/cgi-bin/nc...gnition+module
2) Is this something difficult for an amatuer like myself to replace, or should I leave it upto the big guys?
On another note:
My dad also said that another part had failed, he didn't take a note of it, I asked about the crankshaft sensor and the cam sensor and he said that the cam sensor sounded right. I know I can get a cam sensor for 30 bucks, but I'm wondering how bad it is to replace, if it'* anywhere near as bad as the crankshaft sensor, I'll leave it to the pros.
Thanks!

Edit:
Alright, call me a fool- but is the ICM the same thing as the coil pack? I was looking through my Haynes manual again, and there wasn't anything that stuck out at me to tell me otherwise.

Ah... so the ICM lives under the coil pack, or is the coilpack part of the ICM?
The ICM on my car right now is the type 1 module.
Maybe I should get a type 2 because they look cooler
What do you mean by a better unit, higher built quality, better performance, or something else?
I remember when I got new plug cables the guy asked me what kind of ignition it was, and it didn't dawn on me until you posted the pictures.

Hmm...
I'm thinking I'll just get a new type one...
I think my coils are a-okay and I need to save some money where I'm able to if it'* not going to hinder performance. My test results for my coils are here: http://bonnevilleclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21406
Maybe I should buy new coils too?
I just got off the phone w/ my dad and he talked to the Shop.
If I bring my own parts in, they're going to up the labor by 25% which isn't too bad considering it was going to be just over 100 for the labor to start with... The other failing part was the crankshaft sensor, which I bought on thursday.
Alright math time:
If I get Delco coils for 30 and and a Delco ICM for 140 that'* $170
The Magnavox coils cost 70 but the ICM costs 90 from NAPA, that totals 160... Not a huge difference
If I just get the Mag ICM that would only put me back 90. But I'm wondering if it'* even worth getting just the ICM w/o the coil pack.
I've got to say that I am interested in the type two, but I'm also worried if you had yours and it died so soon, I'm also wondering how the mechanincs will feel about replacing a type one with a type two.
Anyway, I'm open for suggestions, I'm not going to be able to make any progess until tomorrow anyway, so I'll be back several times tonight.
