Default 96 SSEi brakes scraping

I drive a 96 SSEi and my brakes seem to be rubbing//scraping... and making awful noise when I have to press on the brake. If I press lightly it does not do it. It just started yesterday and I'm having my uncle take a look tomorrow night. Any idea'* what this may be? brake pads maybe? seems kind of quick to already be the rotors.

how much do parts usually cost for this?

thanks guys!

Pad related almost certainly. Worn down to the squeakers? They're supposed to make noise when they get thin. The squeaker is a little tab of steel that drags on the rotor when the pad gets too worn.

To add onto what Bill said (Willwren) those squealers are one of those engineered noises.

Car makers found that by engineering noises into your car you'd bring it in for service, before it did any real damage. You are doing the right thing.

The squealers tell you to change brake pads before destroying the rotors. This was especially true in the days when then used rivets to hold the pads to the metal backing of the pad.
