Default Help - CV Boot is being a bastard!

Ball Joint is in ( pix/stories later, when i feel like it) but my drivers side CV boot needs help. As far as I can tell it'* a 2 piece boot, LakevilleSSEi and I agreed it was very smooth if it was ripped. I have a new clamp as well, but the problem is the CV boot is 1 rib back from where it needs to be.

I can't get it over the knuckles of the CV joint. The CV Joint backed out while I was grinding the ball joint, and I look up and see green CV grease infront of me. One of Nate'* friends came by and we managed to get it in, but he pulled the boot back to see the knucles to line them up. So the boot is a rib or two short of being able to be clamped down properly.

Cliffs:
1 Ball Joint jobs suck
2 Nate rocks
3 Idiot here (BonneMe) can't get the CV boot on further, help!

Anyways.......Did he slide the boot back on the shaft or just push it back far enough with some of the slack to see what he was doing to line it all back up?

(I guess I should have thought about all this when I was there a half hour ago LOL)

The outside (smaller clamp) was never moved) just the rubber boot itself.

The joint seems fine, just the boot itself.

ok i replaced boots on my car

loosen axle nut
seperate ball joint
get a big prybar and pry out the half-shaft
when the half shaft is out cut the old boot off along with clips
the CV joint itself is held on the shaft by 2 C-clip'*
remove the c clip on the bottom side of the joint
slide the joint down to reveal the other clip remove that clip
slide th joint off of the shaft install boot dont clamp the boot yet
its reverse procedure for installing

I don't need to install a boot, I just have to get it back over the joint.

Yeah, I'm just gonna take it in to the shop my mom does some stuff for. Sounds like LakevilleSSEi is gonna be able to help me out getting it there tonight.

I figured i reached my limit for buying tools for this project, and i'm sick of spending spring break in the garage.

Just get an axle for $59 from any chain auto parts store. The axle likely has lots of wear on it anway. Changing an axle takes me about 15 minutes start to finish.
