Default problems with 1993 bonneville sse

hi everyone I am new to this board. I am from central illinois
I have a 1993 pontiac bonneville sse, and I have a few problems with it
1. I cant figure out how to make the heat come out of the vents
it either goes to the floor or defrost
I dont have a book so I dont know how to work it
2. none of the controls on the steering column work
3. I pull up on the lever and the brights dont come on
4. security light flashes when I open the door
but a mechanic at midas says that it is fine
5. the check oil sensor comes on but the oil is fine and the mechanic says that it is fine
6. I want to replace the factory radio with an after market radio
I am going to let best buy do it, is there anything I need to worry about
OTHER than that the car is fine, and runs pretty good
oh I think the sunroof leaked because there looked like water marks on the roof
someone(*) please help
i would greatly appreciate it
also anyone in the quad cities

if you have electronic climate control there is no way to make it blow out of the vents, it will do it when it on its own, mostly with the ac,...theres nothing to really worry about on the radio...if best buy is putting it in, the'll take car of everything

by controls on the steering colum...do you mean the wipers, turn signals, cruise control or do you mean the radio controls

One thing to check for the defrost/floor is a vacuum hose that is from the engine to the canister on the firewall next to the wiper motor. Frequently that line is bad. As mentioned..you have no control of your airflow with the 1993 system.

If you were to change your climate control headunit and programmer with a 95+ model you would be able to control airflow as you wish.

Your radio controls on your steering wheel are pretty standard with the problem. 95% of the people with them have rebuilt them with toothpics or other means.

The highbeam issue has the sound of a bad multifunction switch and the column needs to come apart to fix if that is the problem.

The security light...we will need more information to help diagnose this further.

1) The vac line Boosty mentioned can fall off and frequently does when I change plugs. My arm hits it.

3) Does it click or does the level feel like it does anything?

4) Do you have a factory alarm?

5) Is the light always on? The sensor is on the front of the oil pan and fairly easy to change.

6) You'll need some sort of interface for the steering wheel controls to work with a new headunit. I think if you search PAC SWX or something like that you'll find some.

I'm in Peoria.

well I think the switch is broken because I pull up but the high beams do not come on
how much should that cost to get fixed

as far as climate control goes
I guess that is what it is, I can put it on auto or econ
I dont feel it coming out of any vents except on the floor and on the windshield
so thats normal?

I dont know this is all new to me
I had a 1992 bonneville but it had ***** not this computer stuff

none of the radio controls work on the steering column
I havent tried the cruise yet but that is not that important to me
I rarely use it, I do need the high beams though
some of the seat adjusters dont work either
but I dont know a bonneville that doesnt have electrical problems
but they run good though

I think Best Buy has the steering wheel control interfaces. That is... if you get the controls fixed to begin with.

Correct. You will never get heat out of the vents - cool air only. 93'* tell you where you want the air blowing, not the other way around. You can swap with a 95+, which is easy enough if you have the time, place, and ability to do so. Otherwise, it'* just easier to live with it.

Steering wheel. The steering column is the post the wheel is stuck on. lol! Sorry, I'm just anal (and I feel like giving you some grief :P ). My 93 SSE had the same problem. There'* a fix in tech info that uses toothpicks to repair them. Work good, last long time. Also pretty easy to do.

the 93 climate control is easily the worse I've ever seen in any modern car.

the security light is normal. go out and do this:

Remove keys from ignition, hit the LOCK button on the driver door. close door...keep window down, manually unlock the car with the door closed. (reach into door and do it that way)

make sure you have your door key handy to disable the alarm.

The flashing security light is normal. when you lock the car it should go solid for a period of time.
