There is one bulb that moves among those fiber optic type cables to iluminate each dot.

Like JDB said, it'* one bulb. If you look and the bulb is one, don't be surprised. It'* a poor design and usually doesn't light them well enough for most people'* liking.

I should probably doublecheck this in my service manual, but if I remember right, you've got two bulbs in that area: one between the ashtray and the shift quadrant that (attempts to) light up both (ashtray, yes; shift quadrant, not so good) during nighttime driving with the dash lights on, and another that'* inside the housing directly below the shift quadrant, which lights up the little red dots to indicate which gear you're in. In your case, that'* the one that seems to be burned out.

It'* not a special bulb; it'* a #168 or similar wedge-base bulb, like a marker light. Access to it involves pulling the console out, which is not as bad as it sounds if you're patient and have some basic tools. We can outline the steps involved if you want to try it (or you can get a Chilton or Haynes manual to guide you, if the factory manual is out of reach).

If you check the bulb, and it'* good, you may want to check for a broken wire. I found the ground wire to the lamp worn through on the 93 SSE.
