Default Can u help?

I bought a used 97 and have had to name her Sybil.... the security light is always on.. the alarm goes off randomly - the display for the radio is off most of the time but occasionally comes back on. It appears that the factory alarm system has been bypassed.. the keys I have are not chipped and I don't have a remote start for it... I tried calling the dealership and they want almost two hundred dollars for chipped keys that they won't guarantee - any suggestions? anyone else have this issue?

Oh and the engine kills once in a while while driving down the road...out of the blue.. I was told that it may just cut one day completely and I'll be stranded... any truth to this? I'm going on a 1400 mile road trip in two days and am a bit concerned....

If your car starts, the VATS or PASSKEY (chipped keys) system has been bypassed. Don't waste your money on keys (FTR, I can get them for about $15 apiece at a local locksmith).

Your car randomly dying is problably corroded batter cables. Pull the boots off the cable ends at the battery and clean them VERY well. Then apply dielectric grease and reinstall them.

Your car is a potential victim of the dreaded upper intake manifold failure, as well as DEX coolant eating away at your Lower intake gaskets.

Since you have a combination of Electrical and Mechanical questions, I'm moving your topic to 92-99 for better visibility. This section is fro Audio and Aftermarket Electronics.

When your engine dies, do your power locks, windows etc still work? When the engine won't restart, can you hear the fuel pump prime when you first turn the key to "On"?
