Default Evap sensor

A scantool of my car saturday showed the code for the evap sensor in the gas tank...the code was then cleared off the computer and i tightened my gas cap a few more clicks. Today the code tripped again....does this now mean that the sensor needs to be replaced or could the problem still be the gas cap sealing the tank properly? Thanks, Blake
