Default Attention Danthurs, questions about your crank sensor write up

I have a couple questions about your thread. It is awesome and informative but I've never done anything like it before so i have a couple questions that kinda left me hanging.

1. When you say "Install the sensor until the spacer lightly touches the sensor ring, and tighten the sensor mounting bolt 14-28 ft lbs"

The sensor holes look to be perfectly round and I can't see where the adjustment would be made. It looks like the sensor would slip right on and you would tighten it. So, what does it mean for the spacer to slightly touch the ring? What spacer and what ring?

2. You said use proper tools to replace the balancer. What tools? I figured you would position it on and push it back on then tightening the cranl bolt would finish pushing it on. What tools do I need to put it back on?

Thanks, man. Appreciate all your advice.

If the sensor is not adjustable, then just put it on. The write up is done to cover more then just a few years.

You will need a puller for removing a harmonic balancer pulley. Be careful cracking the bolt loose, it can be very stubborn.

Thanks. On my 94 do you think it will need adjustment? I hope it'* a simple drop on.

I have a balance puller so I'm covered there. I will have to get a 28mm socket and something to extend my breaker bar though. Any idea on something easy to find to extend my breaker bar? I know some kind of pipe, but where is the best place to get something like that? I wish I had some old exhaust pipe lying around? haha

On a 94 model... cheater bar... HA! good luck... I was holding the flywheel still with a 2 1/2 foot angled prybar while my 300+lbs friend tried to break loose the bolt with a 3ft pipe on a 3/4" rachet... needless to say it didnt work and it had to wait until i was able to get it in the shop at work and i had to use one of our techs heavy duty impact to get it off... too many years of running and it like most, according to the mechanic, had locktight on the crankshaft bolt... why we dont know but it did

now... on a 94 you just replace the sensor... trust, its not adjustable

and make sure you TIGHTEN the bolt all the way back on... i used the impact and it spun and cranked a couple times and i thought ok its tight enough... car wouldnt start after i got it back together... had to hammer on the bolt a couple more times to get it on ALL THE WAY...

just some insight from a 94 ssei'* recent crankshaft sensor replacement

If you dont have access to an impact, have another buddie help you guys. one holding the prybar, one on the breaker bar, and one hitting the head of the breaker bar with a hammer making it a human impact gun. just a suggestion.
