Can someone tell me if this would work on a 95 Bonne SSEi, to find the trouble codes for Engine Light? See copy and paste below or a more detailed view through link.

To extract a trouble from the computer for diagnostic purposes, the Assembly Line Communication Link (ALDL) connector is used.

Ground terminals A and B with the ignition "ON" and engine not running. The system will enter the diagnostic mode. In this mode, the computer will display a 12, three consecutive times, by flashing the "CHECK ENGINE", "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" or "MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP" or light. A 12 consists of one flash, a short pause, then two flashes in rapid succession.

After 12 is displayed, any stored trouble * will be displayed by flashing the "CHECK ENGINE", "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" or "MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP" light. All * are displayed 3 times each then a 12 will repeat. In the diagnostic mode, the computer will also energize all computer controlled relays and solenoids.

Thanks willwren, since it specifically stated "95 Pontiac" I had hope. I desperately need to figure out the DTC codes for both the engine a ABS light. The 95 is almost done except it won't pass emissions or safety without these repairs done.
I have no more budget to purchase the reader. I guess I could have bought the obd reader instead of the torque wrench but it'* done. I'll keep trying somehow. By the way, I got the SC back together and it seems to be running well....Thanks for your help.

You cannot diagnose the ABS or Traction systems with an OBD scantool. You'll have to take it to the dealer for that, and repairs to those systems are typically very painfully expensive.

I had hoped that by replacing both front wheel bearing and the fact that the drivers front abs was never connect from the previous owner, that it would solve the problem. One thing that still come to mind is the fact that while doing the replacement, I removed the white plactic cover that holds the wire and harness to the abs, but didn't remove the blue plastic cover that surrounded the bearing that went into the housing. It was a bit of a tight fit but it did go in. You can refer to my thread when I was going through the re & re. Thanks again willwren. I'm not sure what piece you're talking about in that topic, so I'll have to check one of mine the next time I have one up in the air.

If the connector is attached, it should be reading. But you also have two sensors on the rear, the PMV assembly (pressure modulator valve assembly under your airbox) and EBCM (electronic brake control module under the carpet on the firewall to the right of your gas pedal OR under the hood near the MC, two different locations on my cars, yours should be the latter).

Both of these last two components are very expensive. I know from experience. The EBCM rarely fails, but the PMV is about as likely as a WSS.

Ok, just so I understand this correctly, what type and model of scanner am I looking for to read the DTC codes, in other words the codes to read why the engine light is on? Secondly, to read why the ABS light is on, is that something only the dealer can tell me? Thirdly, if I purchase one, which would you recommend since I would like it to read codes to the other cars I have. Also the next car I purchase will be a newer Bonne and would like it to read those codes also.

I know there'* alot of question but any help would be appreciated.
