It would take some work, but I'm sure it could be done... You'll want the wiring, PCM, engine and Trans....

It can be done doing a complete swap like previously stated. The best example is Randman1 who swapped a 97 Supercharged motor (L67) into a 90 SSE. This is an extreme case since that car never came with the L67 option.
To do it in your 96, your best bet is to find a rear wrecked 97-99 SSEi So you can be sure you have all the parts you need. You'll want 97-99 because it has the most mod support, cause the 96 does not have PCM support and 92-95 is a different engine.

replacing engine and trans in 96 Bonneville
Thanks guys - using the donner trans and supercharged engine is there issues is switching from an existing automatic to a 6 speed if that is the donners setup?
Any knowledge of a mechanic in NC, VA, SC who could perform this magic. I would love to have the engine rebuilt before if goes into the Bonne.
If no supercharged is available can a stoker be built or is the torque to much fo rthe transmission?

The 6 speed swap won't cost less than like $5k since it'* coppletely custom.
There are 2 stroker kits available for the L36.
One is zzperformances' 4.1l kit:

And the other is Australia'* come racing 4.2l kit:

The aussie kit needs some clearance on the block though.
