Default Synthetic Transmission Oil?

I am getting the classic shuddering problem on my 93 (seems like I am not the only one ). Initially, it was pretty bad but it has gotten much better now, on its own.

Since I haven't changed the transmission oil & filter since I bought the car over 3 years ago, I figured I should do that. I was thinking of using synthetic oil. Has anyone used it before to correct the shuddering problem? What brand is better?

Thanks.

Thanks. One question about the gasket: are the gaskets reusable? The Delco filter does not come with the gasket (some other cheaper brands come with a gasket, but I want to stick with Delco). They sell a semi-reusable gasket but it is double the price of the filter!

I would have thought that a normal cork gasket would do, but nobody seems to sell them separately (for a 93 Bonneville).

I suppose the Xmission gasket might be reusable. But I was under the impression(and I do lousy impressions) that when you buy the Delco Filter, it comes with a new gasket. At least when I bought the Delco Transmission Filter(TF236) for my car, it did. I would take the Filter back to where you bought it and tell them that the filter should come with a gasket. I don't think the ol' cork gaskets are available anymore(or at least they shouldn't be). They were prone to leaking after a very short time. Plus they were a PITA to remove. I'm curious, how much did you pay for the Xmission Filter and how much do they want for just the Gasket???
Also, I too would stick with Dexron III Transmission Oil. If that doesn't clear up the problem, you can either A.) Live with it like most of us(including me) do. B.) If it'* THAT Bad, there are some additives that I have heard that might help(sorry I don't have the name of the stuff at this time) or C.) You don't want to hear about this - Go back to "A"

Actually, two places told me that the filters come without the gasket. I will check with the dealer, too. The filter is $25 (Canadian), and the gasket is $46 (Canadian). This is a rubber gasket with metallic strips so it is much harder to damage when tightening the bolts.

Based on the advice, I would definitely now stick to regular Dexron III fluid. There is a Wynn'* anti-shudder additive ($12.99 Canadian) that I tried. It made some difference, but not a whole lot.

Faisalmali,
When I looked up the Filter Kit for the 1993 Bonneville on the AC Delco Site, it recommends Part # TF304 and I'm almost sure it would come with the gasket. What'* the Part # from your auto supply store?

I just called the Pontiac dealership. TF304 is not listed up here - the part number they had was 24227477. And, guess what? Comes without a gasket. The guy says that I can use silicone in its place (I don't think so).

I also have an invoice from an aftermarket dealer from last year for a filter which didn't include a gasket. The part number was TF304.

I am just going to forget about getting a Delco and put an aftermarket filter and gasket.

Thanks for your help, guys.
