Default Hi, Hopefully you guys can help

I don''t have a bonneville but I do have its 2door sister
1992 Oldsmobile Toronado Trofeo (loaded.. SunRoof/Leather)
In the 90'* as you all know gm over engineerd these cars so the electrics are wonkky.

Problem:
When I start my car the gauges don't turn on. Everthing mechanicly runs fine
so I run without gauges, (I do have tech/radio)
Then i will be driving (anywhere don't matter) the gauges will turn on and act fine. untill I turn the car off and let it sit for more then 4 hours (ruff estimite)

*how I can get them to work
I pull out the connectors to the computer behind the glove box. hit them with compressed air and dielectric grease.. but they wont work again in the morning...

*how it started
My father bought the car new. In 97 my wife bought it off him so really we (wife/I/my dad) have been the origonal owners. I know everything about the vehicle.

**So I was going to a confrence, my 01 camaro and 03(1 ton) work truck arnt very comfy on long trips

I was cruising at 145km/h down the highway all of a sudden (not pushing 3k rpm) the oil pressure fell off. (went down to more then 0 but less the usual) so when I slowed to see what happend (pulled over) the digger went on and told my to check my oil pressure. Then I checked for knocking but nothing. (and has run fine for 1000+km sence, the digger is just anoyying at low speeds)

When I got back into my vehicle the gauges where all off (but tech and radio) then after I got to speed they turned on and I was dazed and confused for the rest of the trip.

Any help?

Hell yes, we'll help! We're pretty laid back here, and anyone that can appreciate domestic performance is MORE than welcome here.

My suggestion is to pull the cluster and disassemble it completely. Very carefully. Clean every connector on each layer. We've had a couple Bonneville'* do this, and this procedure worked. Not always, but sometimes.

Short of that, you're really needing a factory wiring diagram. It would help immensely to find the one wire that would knock the whole damn thing out!

Default ouch...

Sounds painful. I have some liquid copper lying around...
Should I use that after I clean up the connections and check wires, or just dielectric grease?

Not liquid copper! That can cause you Major headaches. Grease only. But I'm betting you have an intermittent broken wire somewhere. Probably at the firewall.

My Cousin has a 90 Trofeo. It used to do the same thing. he tried everything, he ended up have the Instument panel remanufactured. the I.P. panels have a flaw in them from 90-92 on the analog dashs.

Hope this helps,
Devon

Default Trofeo

I have a 89 Trofeo. it now has over 400k on and still runs good but the dash stop working about 2 years ago. I checked in to getting it fix and the people that made it for GM want $500 just to look at it. The touch screen still works so I just use that when I drive it. So about 6 mon ago. All my dope light stop working and the car is going down hill fast. I just got a 93 Bonneville. I love this car as much as the Trofeo when I got it.
I got the Trofeo when it was 2 years old and I have done a lot of reading about the car and its problems so if I can help let me know

when his dash was messed up, some gages would work sometimes, and some wouild mess up, and sometimes none would come on at all.
