Default Rack boot leaking

I discovered I was losing power steering fluid recently. The driver'* side rack boot is wet which suggests to me there is a crack in the boot. How easy is it to change this boot? Are any specialized tools needed?

The Haynes manual tells me I have to remove the steering gear (rack?). How true is this?

Nevermind, further research reveals I probably need a new rack anyway.
