Some time back I tried to use the air valve in the trunk to fill a flat. The compressor kicks on, and I get about 70 PSI (That'* a guess, I don't honestly remember exactly what showed on the gage).

But it wouldn't fill a tire, even after I jacked the car up to take as much load off the tire as possible. The compressor just kept running, the gage dropped to near zero. Finally I just pulled the wheel and brought it up to the gas station to fill.

From time to time the compressor kicks on when I shut the car off, runs for 30-45 secs, and shuts off. I hadn't heard it in quite awhile, but yesterday I had a passenger in the back, and it kicked on when I shut the engine off.

So:

1) I'm guessing there is a leak somewhere, most likely a problem with the compressor itself.
a) Is this (the compressor) the best place to start troubleshooting?
b) If it is a problem with the compressor, is this something I should attempt to repair, or am I better off bringing it somewhere to be rebuilt, or just replacing? I have a limited set of tools, but if there is such a thing as a rebuild kit, I'm pretty sure I could do the work.

2) The lumbar supports don't work for either seat. You hear a pump running, but nothing inflates. I'd always assumed the bladders were shot. Is there one compressor for everything, or do the seats have their own compressor?

Hey i can't completely answer your question but it sounds like the compressor is doing its job with leveling the car. It is normal for it to run a bit when you add weight to the rear end whether the key is on or off. The fact that it ran for 45 seconds says that once it brought the rear end up to normal height, it shut off like it should and is operating normally. I don't know why the inflator isn't working for you, but it is incredibly slow. The gage could have dropped and stayed at zero when you put it to the tire because it didn't have enough time to build pressure again inside the tire.

The seats have their own compressor which is in the seat.

for #2, sometimes the quick connect from the comp to the bladders breaks. If you take a peek under the seat, see if there is an air line not connected to anything.

Cool. Thanks all - I'll inspect under the seats for #2, and since the compressor seems to work for the leveler, I'll inspect the tubing from the trunk to the compressor.

Look for leaks between the selector valve behind the rear passenger seat next to the right rear strut tower in the trunk and the valve. You'll have to remove the carpet and the trim piece around the trunk latch to expose it.

With 70psi, I'd say it'* doing ok, but there must be a small leak somewhere between the selector valve and the schrader valve.

The compressor for the seats is under the right front passenger seat.
