Default Speedo vs HUD

Ok, what inputs drive the speedo and HUD? Is the speedo mechanical? I haven't ever had my cluster out. Kinda need to know.....I'm wondering if I can damage the analog speedo at excessive speed due to overtravel. I gotta beat Turtle'* 136 when my chip gets here.

As far as I know.. it'* electronic. As for peggin the speedo needle... I asked about it earlier and the response I got was that it'* ok... and not as if you'll be driving around at 136+ miles for long anways...

The PCM provides 4000 pulses per mile to the instrument cluster and the HUD. The instrument panel converts the speed signals to mechanical movement. I don't know if burying the needle will hurt it or not, but I doubt it.

Mine is +/- 1mph at 100. Below 50, they're dead on.

Mine is wacked !!! At 73 kmh on the HUD.. it'* close to 78 kmh.. and above 110.. it takes a while longer.. the HUD can display it at 112 kmh.. and it'* running 110 on the gauge.. and the HUD can say 118 kmh and the needle will point to 112-113 kmh... it doesn't match up till its either 110 or 120 kmh...

For those of you wondering, unlike many passenger cars (like Hondas, for instance) our speedometers are dead-on accurate, even at triple digits (don't ask me how I found this out :P).

And the HUD should be more accurate than the speedo, seeing as it is taking the direct inputs from the VSS.
