ok, my car has been having a starting issue. When you go out to start it during the day for the first time it wont start no matter how long you let crank. I took it to a mechanic and he discovered that when you turn the key to the on position and leave it for a few minutes then go out and start it, it will start every time. He said that it seems like the computer is resetting itself everytime the car is shut off and left for a period of time. Thats why it wont start right away, the computer is in a way rebooting itself. He already checked the battery cables and they're fine. So what could cause this? Is it even the computer? thanks

I agree. It is very unlikely a computer issue. Fuel pressure is a big one.
If you turn the key to on, let it sit for 2 seconds, then start, does it start every time? The fuel pump primes for 2 seconds on 'key on'. It may need the whole two seconds to prime, or be bleeding down too much to hold the pressure. This could be a clogged strainer, bad pump/check valve, or bad FPR. Even a fuel filter.

Coming into the trifecta of posting..
Let me ask.
What year and model car are we even talking about?
With this information and maybe a couple more questions...I think the ECM expert in Gatorland will chime in and tell you if you most likely have a bad pcm.
I'm kinda hoping you have a 94/95
