Trans dies
I hope this is the right forum. On the way home from work tonight I lost the transmission:~( I had trans fluid on the left rim and all over the ground. Is the trans shot, or need I just lose a seal? any ball park of what it will cost to fix?

Should just be a hose that came off. Don't drive it! Tranny Fluid is VERY FLAMABLE! Get that sucker into a shop and have it looked at!

Gotta be the cooling hose. Mine has broken about 3 times already. If the metal part rusted through like mine and your poor like me you can just patch it with transmission line available at your local favorite autoparts store. I called a dealer to get the gmpd part numbers to replace all the parts. Its only like 50 bucks, but most of my paycheck goes to the liquor store. Hence, now my makeshift tubing is hanging about 4 inches from the ground because it slipped out of stock bracket. I would fix it but its snowing outside. Yeah thats the excuse I will use today.
edit: Also happened on my chevy corsica whilst driving down 91 in W. Springfield. I lost all power and when I pulled over there was "stuff" all over my car. Turned out to be tranny fluid. Was a free fix though. The hose just had to be reconnected.
editII: When it comes to tranny fluid fires just remember to stop, drop and roll. Ive been lucky thus far, driving all the way to work (8 minutes) with transmission fluid shooting out all over the place.

There was a factory recall. If your car missed it, you're lucky to have made it this far. My 93 caught on fire. 
The new GM lines are much improved and will give you no problems. They're around 30 bucks each from the dealer.
This is all assuming the diagnosis is correct, of course.
