Default Help me out fellas - My Bonny wont start!!

Havent been on the forum in a while, been kinda busy with work, etc.. I'm sure you all know how that goes. Its awesome to see how much this club is growing though!! Anyways, the Bonnevilles been doin great, until today that is. I go to get in it at 6:30 this morning to go to work, put the key in, turn and all it wants to do is crank. Now I'm pretty knowledgeable when it comes to cars, but man, this one has got me stumped. The Battery is good, everything electrical is working great, and the car does turn over swiftly and quickly as always, it just wont give in and start, so I know its not the Battery. The starter also sounds good, since the engine really is actually cranking. No unusual noises or anything like that, which leads me to belive that the starter is ok too. My next thoughts lie with something fuel realted. I was thinking maybe fuel pump relay, but when I turn the key and try to turn it over, I can hear the relay click over and the fuel pump come on for 2-3 seconds and then shut off which is normal, so I'm ruling out that relay. It has a 1/2 tank of gas, so I know its not something that simple. Now I'm stumped. Needless to say I didnt make it to work yet today, and I'm waiting for the tow truck to get here to have it towed to my local mechanic because I have simply given up. My mechanic seems to have a pretty good feeling its the Crankshaft Position Sensor, which I hear is a common problem on upper mileage 3800'*. If thats the case I'd be somewhat relived since I can get a delco one for $30 with my Advance Discount. Anyways, just thought I'd run it by my fellow Bonneville owners out there, and see if you guys and girls had any ideas for me.

Thanks as always.

Chris,

I had the same thing happen to my 92 Sunbird, and it turned out to be a bad fuel pressure regulator. I know the engines are different but GM uses similar electronics and fuel systems in many of their motors. It'* worth a shot. Good luck.

Hey your alive, we were just talking about you in the IRC chat room. Figured you dropped off the face of the earth, LOL

I was going to gues the crank sensor my self. But could also be something fuel related. I guess you will have to wait and see what they say at the garage and go from there!

Yea I'm still kickin. Ugh, I HATE the site of seeing my bonneville on the back of a flatbed though, I can tell you that for sure Anyways, its at the garage now so I'll have to post what the problem was whenever they figure it out. Hopefully it wont run me to much. I normally enjoy doing everything myself to my car, but I just dont have the time and equipment to mess with this problem. I NEED my car and I already MISS my car

Anyways, wheres the new IRC Channel ?? I was just in the grandprix room yesterday for a few minutes and #bonneville is still down.

Thanks for the replies though guys!

Actually, maybe this wont help much, but I had a very similar problem, like 2 week ago... Went to see the mechanic, and finally, he sayd it was an electric module that controled ignition... Fuel was there, but spark wasn't...

I guess I can't really tell you more, since 2 week ago, It was like only a couple of day after i bought it, so he replaced it on his cost (mechanic was also the vendor heh)

:/

Ok, crying doesnt describe it. I'm I'm stright F'in pissed off. My mechanic calls me at 3, tells me that he went out to work on my car after I had it towed there this morning, he gets in, and the thing starts right up! Now WTF. I was actually hoping something was broken so that I could get it FIXED and not have to worry about this anymore. Now he said there is really no way for him to tell exactly wtf is going wrong because the problem isnt replicatiing. Hes a pretty cool guy and a friend of mine, so just for ***** n giggles he threw a pressure tester on the fuel rail and everything'* fine. He also scanned the computer and no codes. He still insists on it being a Crank sesnor, and recommended I come back and have him replace that before it leaves me stranded somewhere, but even then he couldnt give me a guarantee thats what it was and would fix it.

Anyways, here'* what I want to know. I have a father whos worked for Bosch for 27 years now, and kinda has an in as far as getting me any parts for cars, wether they are Bosch, Delco, Etc.. Over the years, you just kinda become friends with people, etc.. Anyways, I can pretty much get AC parts for my Bonny for nothing so heres what I want to do. I'm definetely going to have him get me a Crankshaft Position Sensor, and also and Ignition Control Module just in case (from what I've been reading those are the 2 most common answers). I also had my mechanic look and see why I've been dripping oil and tranny fluid all over the place, and hes telling me that the tranny fluid is coming from a shot front right half-shaft seal coming out of my tranny, and the oil is coming from both a shot oil pan gasket and my oil pressure switch is leaking, nothing major. For some reason, although I didnt mention this to my mechainc, I also think my intake gaskets are on their way out (Upper and lower plenum gaksets, etc..) and they could probably really be cleaned anyways, so I want to do those.

How long does it take and whats involved in replacing the Crank Sensor?
How long does it take and whats involved in the front right half shaft seal?
How long does it take and whats involved in doing upper/lower intake gaskets?
And lastly,
Who wants to come to NY for a weekend and hang out and help me do it?

I had the EZACT same problem . It turned out to be my intake manifold , it was leaking and it stalled my engine . replaced it and removed all the anti-freeze turns out cause I let the car sit for 2 weeks the anti freeze rusted alot of of stuff and I had the whole thing rebuilt !
