Does anyone elses compressor for the Auto Leveling/ride hight adjustment, start up periodicily for no reason when the car is sitting turned off, with nothing in the trunk ?
Mine has been doing this for awhile and I always figured it was wierd but normal but now I'm starting to wonder....
Last night after hitting a little crack in the road I heard a loud Bang & felt it from the right rear. At first I thought it was the shock maybe frozen with Ice & snow but it wasn't.
After driving the car today I heard/felt it come from the other side (drivers rear).
When parked if I push down on the back end it doesn't seem to have any excesive travel or bounce and no noise.

I figure it might me the springs but I can't remember if the rear has coil overs or independent shocks & springs in the back end. I also thought it might be something with the Air Ride but I'm not sure about this.

Any ideas what it could be,

sounds like yout rear shocks have leaks. and i dont beleave that there coil overs

The springs are separate, and they're struts with air assist. Either they, the connections or the hoses are likely leaking.

92-95 ELC systems were wired directly to the battery. Due to leaky struts causing dead batteries.. this design was later changed to an ignition on ELC system.

If you experience occasional ELC operation, that is considered "normal". However frequent operation is not. You can use soapy water to suds up the struts and air lines to look for leaks. While you are looking for leaks, don't rule out the compressor. There is a check valve on it that can go bad as well.

92-94 were wired to work with the ignition off. 95 was not.

Odd...my 95 would run w/key off as well.

Either way, what type of mileage is on these struts?

My 95'* ELC won't run unless the key is in, and ignition on. Must have been a transition year.

Anyway, jack up the rear, pull both rear wheels. Spray soapy water or 'snoop' (preferred) on the rubber airbags on the struts. See bubbles?

Reminding again.......these are GAS struts with air assist.

Bill...can you please link your strut and soapy water pics. We need to also add that to the GH project.
