Question No TCC No Fourth Gear

I noticed yesterday my TCC quit engadging and fourth gear quit working. I had been driving on the highway and local all weekend. It was working then it just quit. I think it was after the car idled for almost 1/2 an hour with the air on, after I took off from that I noticed it, and it was working before that. I am in a mountainous area so it gets alot of hill time, but I usually get it settled in TCC so it is no revving up the mountans.

Have the car scanned for codes, some don't set off a light. Could be a bad TCC solenoid.

If it is solenoid, tranny has to come out, right?

Trans doesn't have to come out for a soleniod swap. You can lower the engine/trans a bit to pull the side cover off. Recently Villian and I did his, a while ago Gunner was here and between him, Villain and me we were in there in under a half hour

Thanks Danthurs! So I guess loosen trans/ motor mounts on drivers side to do this? No axle pulling or anything?

Pull subframe, undo all your mounts except the TA mount on the passenger end of the motor etc. It'* a good amount of work.

I didn't mean to be misleading on Gunners. We had just swapped the trans in and then noticed the selector didn't move and had to go in. Villian had just showed.... all three of us have car experience and attacked the car with zeal to get it back in order.

I'm Dan.

Check to see if you have a split sub frame. You will find a joint on the front right corner and the left rear just behind the lower control arm. Support the trans with a large board and jack. Remove the front of the sub frame, the left axle will have to come out. Undo the left rear trans mount. Have fun, not much room there. Then lower the jack until the side pan is clear.

92-99 does split. The reason I suggested the cradle is because both axles need to come out or the angle may break the passenger end one. The dogbone to the differential needs to be removed and many guys find it easier to leave the rear driverside mount on the trans vs lining it up and putting the bolts back in. It is nice in our years because there'* very little hooked to the subframe.
