Default Oil everywhere.....

I just put a motor in my 99 Pontiac Beautiville...It runs great, but I couldn't pass the emission test (Indiana). So I go to check the plugs, and the threads are covered in oil.. There is also a small amount of oil in the throttle body.. and my pcv valve is covered in oil.

I was reading through some of the help here (Thank God I found you guys), and I noticed the pcv valve could be leaking oil through everything. Is that correct? Could it be the reason my plug are oily? And if you fon't mind, could you explain how the oil'* relationship with the pcv. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The PCV valve helps keep a level pressure through out your engine. It connects the Crankcase to the Intake manifold. The crank case it where your oil sits. So the blow gases can carry oil to your PCV valve. So that'* way thats oily. Shake it if it sounds like it'* moving it'* good if not. Change it. Should jsut change it anyways. They are a cheap part to change. The throatle body has oil fo rthe same reason. Blow by gases. so change the PCV and see whats up. The spark plugs though I couldn't say. Sorry.

I would start by checking the valve cover gaskets. This is generally a good source of oil running down the block, plugs, and exhaust manifolds. Oil in the TB could be from the PCV. Check the oil level and make sure your not over full.

So a quick update.... I pull the UIM and found oil puddled in the top of the LIM... Would this be a bad piston ring?

On top of the LIM or inside the LIM? A bad piston ring would be pushing oil through the combustion chamber and blue smoke discharging from exhaust pipe while running would be noticeable.

Check as suggested above.. replace the PCV, pull the valve covers and re-gasket them.

I would go with a bad PCV valve. That'* the only way oil is going to get up there.

ok, I changed it a few days ago after the problem began. Im going to clean the oil out, put it back together, and see what happens. I really appreciate all the answers and help.

Hey and Danthurs, I used to deliver coal to Sheboygan from Chicago... we're almost related, lol!
