Default Replacement muffler for 94 SSEi?

After 12 years and 145,000 miles the muffler is stating to go. NAPA, CarQuest and Autozone don't have a listing for it. Figured I'd bite the bullet and buy the OEM. GM has discontinued it. Any ideas? Someone here must have run into this.

I am curious as to how the muffler is "starting to go".....is it just rusted out or what symtoms are you having.

There are numerous OEM-tospec mufflers available for these, you can also go OEM for a F-Body...firebird/camaro, same muffler design.

www.rockauto.com

When no one else had an OEM listing on my 97 SSEi, they did. Damn good prices too. Superfast on the shipping.

Muffler and both tail pipes was $136 to my door, GMPD wanted about $300 for the muffler alone. I assume the price difference is due to the stainless steel mix in the metal on the original one.

The seam is starting to open up.

They do have a listing for an SSE which I am sure would work. But for some reason it specifically excludes the supercharged 3.8. Any idea what the difference could be?

Maybe pipe diameter?

nope both the SSE and the SSEI had 2.5" piping....try searching the years of 92-99, as they all used the same exhaust setup

Rockauto has no listing for 92-95, but they do for a 96. The question is will it fit?

Not all 92-99 SSEI have the same exhaust set-up. I believe there are at least 3 different arrangements. I spent a long time looking for one for my 93 trying to make something work. I also would have been very happy to have GM sell me one even at their $ (my car had cheap muffler shop one on it falling apart). I ended up custom fitting a Walker OEM replacement F-body muffler on it but am not real happy with the sound.
The catalog books at local parts stores gave the same exception for my car as you have stated above and their pictures for dual outlet mufflers showed both outlets on the same side?? I later found a listing for 93 SSEI at

http://www.partsamerica.com
(strange that Maremont does not list this on their site)

Partsamerica doesn’t list one for a 94 though. I am not 100% sure but I believe the only difference between 93 and 94 arrangement is that the muffler outlet pipes for the 94 have real exhaust tips, whereas 92/93 have pipes that end into heat shields below the rear bumper. Someone else here may be able to confirm.

edit: Link was showing Maremont 1409-11 muffler for 93SSEI & SSE but when I tried again it only comes up for 93SSE supercharged
