When driving today my accessory belt fell off I was able to get it to my house even though the steering was very hard and when it happened i was like 40sec from my house. But how do I adjust the tensioner pully to put a new one on.

Also my AC went out over a year ago and I think i remember seeing a post where some one was able to put a shorter belt on and leave the ac discnnected I was wondering if I could do this when i replace the belt and if any one knows what the belt I would use would be.

The tensioner is spring loaded so there is no real adjusting as it adjusts itself. In order to install the new belt, put a wrench or socket & ratchet (15mm I think) on the head of the bolt on the tensioner and pull upward. Kinda like you wanted to turn the bolt to remove it.

Thanks I will try it tomorrow when it is light out. I have always liked it here every one is help full and much more willing to help than other car forums I have been to.

By the way what happens to be the stock length of the NA belt. Also what can happen if I run the without the belt other than draining the battery not being able to steer and over heating. Are there any other problems that could have come up from it.

A) get into an accident
B) warp heads and loose compression
C) blow the motor
D) you won't be able to pick up that fine chick 'cause your car'* broke

Please don't drive your car without the belt that drives EVERYTHING on your car. I'm glad you got home but the car is in no condition to be driven without fixing your problem.

I know I will not drive it it will not even steer I was just wondering if there is any thing I would need to look for that might be damaged from running with out it even it was a short time.

The car has been wrecked before and has some small problems that could be fixed with a new hood and front subframe replacement It then it will be good as new but I would rather save for my GP GT even though I love my bonne i like the S2 better

Mine just hrew the belt last week. Turns out the idler was bad.

If you throw a belt suddenly, it is either a bad tensioner or stretched belt. Seeing that your car is a 93, im guessing that the tensioner is going bad.

Sometimes if you replace an accessory drive (alt, PS pump, etc) the new pully might not be inline and the belt can walk off the pulley, but check the tensioner.

Most tensioners have a arrow on them and three marks. When you put the belt back on look at the tensioner and check of there is an arrow. If there is then see that is is within the two outter marks. Then have a friend with the car in park and ebrake fully engauged rev the engine. Watch to see if the arrow stays within the two outter marks. if it goes outside the tensioner is not keeping proper tension on the belt.

When the car is off the arrow should be some where in the middle of the two marks. Remember to keeps hands and fingers out of the belt drive when the car is running. And be ready to duck incase the belt flies off durring the test.

Also, when installing the belt moving the tensioner should be a bitch and almost take all you have to hold it and route the belt. If it isnt that might be another sign that it is bad.

A 73 inch belt can be used to bypass the AC. You lose some waterpump belt wrap, but the car I did it to seems to be unaffected.

I was missing the socket to fit it all i had was a 17mm and 19mm i needed a 18mm. We got it up the road a short distance to have the belt replaced since i found out my parrents have not had it replaced in over 5 years. But they will also change the oil and spark plugs because it needs it.
