Default 2.84 > 3.06?

Just wondering how much of a difference I might feel going from my vanilla '93 SE to a possible '93 SSE N/A. I'm to understand the axel ratio in mine is most likely 2.84, while the SSE will have a 3.06 ratio. How much difference can I expect to feel? Thanks again in advance to everyone who posts

I had the 2.84 in my 93 and my 99 has the 3.08. The only differnce I've observed is that my 93 got better gas mileage than my 99 does. That could be attributed to many other things than gear ratio (namely L36 vs. L27). I actually preferred the 2.84, though. I do 90% highway driving so it kept the RPMs lower. I'm not one to ever romp on the peddle so torque isn't important to me....gas mileage and comfort is!

It makes a BIG difference in the Series 1 L27. 2.84 cars go from 0-60 in the 10 second catigory. 3.06 cars go from 0-60mph in the mid 8s. The 3.06 is much better for stronger takeoffs. And its 3.06 BTW, not 3.08

I was just reading thats its fairly simple to change it to a 3.73:1 ratio...that would be a load of fun but its not from an HD transmission.

Kyle, your car and an SSE are both 3.06, not 2.84. 2.84 is a LeSabre. Bonnevilles got the 3.06, but the supercharged models got a 2.97 for our generation.

Could be, but to the best of my knowledge, ALL SSE'* are 3.06, and at least MOST SE'* and SLE'*.

I know the 2.84 was common in most LeSabre'* with the 4T60. I gained all this knowledge looking for a salvage trans for Jseabert.

Agreed. The 2.84 IS rare in a Bonnie. But, prefered for my use of the car.

Ya figure a few years of the Bonnies had some weird configurations. It'* possible a high trim level like an SSE would have the 'highway' gearing.
