I have the base 95 SE. Should the part of the gauge cluster with the outline of the car indicate when my doors/hood/trunk are open or not?

Currently there is no indication that they are open. I am just wondering if this was an option that I do not have on my particular car, or if there is a problem.

us SE owners arent good enough to get a simple door ajar chime, or gauge dealy. i have the same probelm. i can drive down the road with the doors open and nothin happens. my mom almost ran over my little sister because theres no chime or anything and she didnt know my sis had opened the door and was trying to get out. stupid GM!!!

I'm reasonably sure you don't have the door-ajar elements in your dash display, since the full-blown DIC display in the SSE/SSEi is a different graphic from that of the SE. I just skimmed through a PDF file of the '93 owner'* manual and it doesn't look like there'* any provision for a Door-Ajar warning on the SE.

You could rig one of your own if you have access to a pin switch in the door that grounds when the door opens, and you don't mind installing your own warning lights in the dash, or hiding a buzzer or something like that behind it. (I'm not totally sure the Bonneville actually has pin switches anymore; I'm winging it here. )

Those pin switches usually have two spade lugs on the back, only one of which is usually connected, for the interior lights. You can connect a 12V supply to a buzzer, warning light or whatever, and run its ground wire to the unused connector on the pin switch on the door(*) you want to monitor, and whenever that door is opened, the buzzer or light will activate. (If you don't find a pin switch, locate whatever switch it is in the door that grounds to turn on your interior lights when a door is opened. That'* the one you need to piggyback.)

You'll want to get that 12V supply from an ignition-switched circuit, so that the warning only occurs when the car is running. (You must not tie it to another circuit sharing the same ground point which is live all the time, because it will then use your new circuit as a ground when the car is off. The two spade lugs on a door pin switch are isolated from each other for this reason: on the driver'* door, the second lug is often used for an ignition-only key reminder buzzer or a headlights-on alarm.)

Probably a bit more work than you were wanting to do, of course...
