Default My Car Stall After 10 minutes

I know this is not an Grand Am club but i had a question about one. My friend has an 93 Grand Am 3300 not 3800 like ours but the engine setup and everything looks exactly the same. I did an diagnostic on her car and it said code 42 (Ignition Control). I not seeing how it could be her ignition control module because she just had one installed by an dealer about a month ago. Now the car starts ups fine but then about 10-15 minutes after driving the car shuts off then you have to wait about 10 minutes for it to start back up. I checked her coil packs and all of them are getting spark. Also the cam sensor is A-ok. What could be the cause of this problem?

Easy...Crankshaft Position Sensor. Unfortunately the harmonic balancer needs to be pulled in order to change it.

Sounds like it could be the crank sensor, and over time it may not start back up. My car sent a bunch of ignition codes my way when I scanned it when my sensor went...so it may be the case. Does the car always die after 10-15 min? What about if you let it sit for 10 minutes?

Default crank

A bad crank will effect initial start up.

A crank sensor on its way out will act up when it gets hot. The resistance in the sensor windings gets higher therefore reducing the voltage output. Once it gets below the threshold that the ICM can still process, it will stall. Once the sensor cools down enough it will then have an output high enough to run enough.

I think that - that might be the problem because i did a diagnostic on it and it said the crank sensor low voltage was the problem but then it went away and gave me the code 42 the next day. But that sounds like her car when you guys said when it gets hots then cools down and it would start back up. I would check back with you guys after i tell her. And also how hard is it to be put on?

Thanx alot!!

I have a similar problem my car stalls and then starts up again right away except the last time it took about 5 min to start. I can drive the car for days with no trouble and then it happens again. Could this be a crank sensor? I have a 95 SSEI. On a side note I have 225 60 16 tires on my car can I replace them with 215 60 16? I can get a great buy on these tires.

Im not for sure but i think these cars have a camshaft and an crankshaft sensor. What is the difference between them and how do they affect the car?

A cheaper fix to llok at as well is to make sure your Throttle body bolts are nice and tight. Mine used to stall on me, and while replacing the FPR, I found out the TB bolts were a bit loose.
