Hi, I joined this forum recently. I've followed several posts about Bonnevilles that die while driving them (including http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...=760421#760421
). Your expert consensus was "check your battery cables". So that'* what I did. And I think you're right.
Not only is my positive battery cable corroded at the end that meets my alternator, but the insulation is peeled/stripped away and the cable wire is in direct contact with my engine frame - so my alternator is feeding my engine frame more than my battery! This probably explains why my battery has drained itself, and probably also explains why sometimes, while driving, I suddenly lose the juice and the car dies. (Curiously enough, I notice mice droppings around my engine - I guess I don't drive enough, and the car'* parked indoors in a garage. Wacky mice eating my wires?!)
So, this weekend I plan to have my battery recharged, and I also plan to buy a new battery cable and some mouse poison. The cable I need is the positive cable set that goes from my battery to both the starter and alternator. Does anyone know where I can buy one of these cables? Pontiac dealership? Canadian Tire?
I'm in the Plateau area in Montreal.
Thanks for your help!
