Unhappy My 1993 Bonneville SSEI acting up, please help!

Not sure I have a signature or know how to make one, so figured I'd put the car details in the title.

I just got the car a few days ago. It has 147,000 miles on it. When I first got it, the service engine soon light was coming on and off, and also the low coolant light, and third brake light. It was getting a code of TPS sensor idling low, or something to that effect, so I went and got a new one and replaced it, which was a bit of a pain, but ended up unbolting the throttle body to get to it so i could turn it upwards to get to the screws easier. After that I changed the fuel filter and oil with Mobil 1 10W30 High Mileage, and an AC delco filter. I then washed the car and under the hood. After that I drove it to my sisters, about 30 min drive, and noticed if I give it too much gas, it starts sputtering, and died on me a couple times, till I learned that if I don't give it too much gas it'll slowly go and get up to speed. So I was messing with it, and accidentally yanked the spark plug wire, and it left the metal piece on the spark plug, so changed the plugs and wires today, but is still doing the backfiring and sputtering, any suggestions?

Hopefully that wasn't too long and drawn out, just giving a better idea of everything I've done and problems I had. Everybody on this forum seems to be really friendly and helpful which I like. I've had other vehicles or motorcycles in the past and on their forums, people were kinda jerks about helping. I tried doing a search and looking up problems, but didn't really figure out the exact same problems. Haven't gotten any other codes other then the tps sensor. Thanks in advance for the help.

now im not the best mechanic in the world, but i would suggest changeing the fuel filter, and if not, i had a sputtering problem with my supercharger and still do, but people have suggested changing the boost control sensor, but mine never stalled, i would check the fuel filter first, o and i can relate bc ive got a 93 ssei as well

I changed the fuel filter, the old one i don't even think was bad after pulling it, it felt the same as the new one, so i don't think it was clogged. Not sure if when I sprayed in the engine bay, I got something wet and thats making it act up?

Your car has an OBD1 control system, which allows you to read any diagnositic trouble codes (DTC'*) your engine is creating. Please read this thread, obtain the DTC'* and come back and tell us what they are.

I did a search and figured it out. At first i was just trying to click on my sn on here and thought I could edit from there.

So can anyone help pinpoint my problem? Did I get something wet I shouldn't have? Thats the only thing I can figure, just not sure what.

At first the service engine light would come on intermittenly(sp?) but now it stays on, I went back to the parts store to scan it again, and comes up with same code, then I clear it and do it again, then says there is no errors, so not sure whats up with it.

Typically a sputter is a weak spark. Test your coils, you mentioned your changing your wires. Pull your plugs and inspect them. How do the ends look? Are any of the ends black? If so, note which cylinder(*) they came from. If any plugs look anything but a light, dull gray, note the cylinder and post your findings here.

the old ones i pulled looked fine, all of them looked clean, but since i had the new ones, i put them in anyways, but i did number the old ones in the new boxes and kept them(read that on a post i saw to mark them)

i did have a 98 Firebird with a 3.8l na, and it had a coil pack go bad, and it would spudder, so maybe that is it. its been years since i had that car, so hard to remember if its doing the same thing or not. just seems odd it just started doing it out of the blue. is there a way to test them, or should a code come up? i need to figure out how to manually check for codes, i'm sure i can do a search on here and find out.

cool, thanks. i do really appreciate the help and advice. one thing i did like about this forum is all the help and how friendly everyone seems to be, most forums don't have that.
