92' Boone transmission behavior normal?
My 92' Bonne has the 440-T4 transmission without lockup. When I let off the gas I might as well have put the car in neutral. It freewheels with absolutely no engine braking. Going downhill the car can pick up considerable speed. This make if hard to keep a constant speed (without braking) here in the hills (mountains) of East Tennessee.
Is this normal? The transmission seems to be in excellent shape other than this annoyance.

Isn't this normal though? My TC locks up all the time consistently at 49mph under most cases. I drive on a lot of hills every day and if let off the gas on a significant decline my car will pick up plenty of speed too. Thats why I use cruise control to save my brakes.

If you are going down hill and you take your foot off the gas as in No load the TCC will disengage and the engine will drop near idle( Freewheel ).... You can select a lower gear forbetter engine braking or use the cruise which can help somewhat..
If this is the case and your having this issue going down hill its normal with the 4T60-E ... If this is happening while you are climbing hills then we have an issue

Drew, can you put your year and trim level in your signature? Thanks!
You have a 92. All were produced with the 4T60E. Your owner'* manual is using an old GM designation for the trans.

I have no spare tire cover. It only has the pad over the tire, I assume there was a fiber board with a code list lable? Most likely it was gone long before I had the car.
There is an ID plate on the top radiator cross beam on the drivers side. I can tell it has the paint code, etc. Could it be there? Could it be buried in the VIN?
