trans cooler installation
Hi
I just installed a B&M 19k gvw tranny cooler using the mount straps rather than the "through the core" zip ties.. ouch!!
Now..for the big question. Since I wanted to run the fluid thru the aftermarket cooler first, and then back to the oem, I tapped into the top line of the rad. Was this the correct line??
BTW, even if I was incorrect...engine temps coupled with the 180 t-stat, and Prestone green are much cooler than with the stock Dexcool/195.

I believe you should be okay running it thru there I think thats the best location unless you want the return which then would be cooled by the trans cool then to the trans and back... well hmmm I dont think it matters although your just cooling the coolant 2 times .. no biggie.. shouldnt hurt anything ...... Hows it working other then your sudden question?
Also never question things if they are working

Hi
It runs great..no leaks, and eng temps are noticably lower after the installation.
I am interested in "pre-cooling" BEFORE the rad...so that why i asked. It gets a little chilly up here in the winter..and I dont want to over do it..lol

I live in a desert Fresno California and I have a "small" aux cooler and it works great. You are covered for serious mods now. You did a good thing.

Hi
I connected up the cooler after they had flushed the tranny. I am looking into getting /putting in a pan drain plug so that I can make a partial fluid change every 5th or 6th oil change.
I drive about 1200 miles/wk, and change every 3000 miles, and have used wally 10w-30 synthetic in my last 3 3800'*. My 89 Regency Brougham had 265,000 when I traded it on a 1995 Royale. The Royale was recently traded with 245,000 on this LSS. Because I change fluids regularly, all had orig eng/tranny..and ran excellent when traded. Both are still in use...the Regency is near 400k, and the Royale is now a local TAXI..
None of my 38'* have "burned" oil, and except for needing to replace the rear main seal on the Royale, haven't leaked either.

Yeah thats a good idea I did that with my last car and it made my trans shift so much smoother because of the frequent change plus I didnt have to change the filter as often. This is a very easy mod and it does wonders for your tranny.

Hi
I am now thinking about the induction aspect. First off, due to the high Si levels in UOA when K&N'* are involved, I will not go that route. I am looking into some sort of airbox mod coupled with a Baldwin.
