Default TPS install question

I found this from a post from jr's3800 back in 2003 on the tps install:

Install
1) With throttle valve in normal closed idle position, install throttle position sensor on throttle body assembly, making sure the pickup lever is above the tang on the throttle actuator lever

I removed and reinstalled my tps and now my idle rpm is high and rough.
When installing, I noticed an arm on a spring action that only fit in one way and the screw holes matched up.Is that the Pickup lever and tang thing jr was talking about?.
I had to insert it with a bit of a twist to do this. Did I do it right?
If I put it straight in, the screw holes didnt match up. should I have forced it?
I did it without taking the tb off, I used a pliers to get the bottom screw in. What a pain. I lost one bit down in the engine bay someplace and had to purchas a whole set of star bits to get the one I needed.

EDIT:

I need a picture guide..... :(
