Hi to all,
Alex is behaving pretty good, except today I decided to take a gandar at his fuse panel on the drivers side.
I discovered a fuse was missing for the ABS.
I decided to throw one in, now his TRACTION OFF indicator lights on the dash, and his Traction Control indicator no longer illuminates by his shifter.
Prior to throwing the fuse in, the TRACTION OFF indicator did NOT illuminate on the dash, and the shifter DID light up, but you couldn't turn it off. You would depress the switch, and it remained illuminated by the shifter, and the dash indicator never lit, until now.
Is his TC malfunctioning? Probably yes.
Now, wen I push the button by the shifter, Alex "beeps" but nothing changes.
Wheel speed sensor?? Should I unplug his ABS fuse again and leave well enough alone? Will I harm him running this way?
Prior to the fuse installation, we had a biit of snow in Southern Ontario, and his front wheels would spin pretty easy. Made me think his TC wasn't working properly.

I checked the threads, and couldn't find anything like this, any help would be appreciated.

I'd put money on one of the wheel speed senors.

Lots of money if I had it.


Reseat all the connections, if no go, test the resistance ( i think thats how you test them but I'm not sure)


I dont have an FSM for 1993 but someone on here does for sure.

It could be something else, but it sounds like one of your Wheel speed sensors is unplugged or broken.




and please, can we get a sex change for your car? Perhaps a 2.3" pulley would help it grow some balls.

At the moment, I would unplug the fuse until you could get further help and diagnostics.

Typically the ABS/TC system codes need a Tech2 level scanner to be read. Check all your wheels speed sensor connectors at each wheel. However there are many other parts to the system that could be causing the fault. Because of the odd behavior yours is exhibiting I would be inclined to believe it'* not a wheel speed sensor. (We know the normal behavior and your car isn't really doing that.)

Let'* keep on topic please. Depending on the actual issue the problem could be serious to the point a a possible fire which may be why the fuse was pulled.

Possible fire? I better pull the fuse back out until I can get around to checking the wheel speed sensors. Any idea what resistance I should be reading at the plugs? It wouldn't surprise me if I discover some of the plug wires cut, the previous owner was a butcher. I found a few wiring harnesses cut for no apparent reason, and have finally put them back together / found new ones from a scrap yard. Is there a relay for the TC?

OH, Regarding the cars name:
The past cars I've owned were either un-named, or had a girls name. All the ones that had a girls name took my money, were never happy, complained a lot, let my friends drive them around town, and have left me stranded at the side of the road. Thought if I named this one after my favourite guitar player it would let me buy it a beer sometime.

If I am not mistaken, if it was a WSS, your ABS light would also come on. Your conditions sound vaguely familiar to my own. I just posted some low-level testing I have done on mine, maybe it will help you out on determining what ISN'T the issue:

The Traction Off light will come on if there is a trans overtemp condition, a fault in the TCS itself, or as stated if a WSS goes out. But if it is a WSS condition, your ABS light should also come on. Mine comes on when there is slippage from 1-2 gear shift, and if it is true that this system detects slippage like that, it may be time for a new trans soon.

I forgot to mention in my original thread, that the ABS light is NOT lit.
Nor, does it light when I turn the ignition to RUN and the system does the check.
Maybe the bulb is burnt out in the dash?
I am worried this could be sign of a greater problem. If anyone has further suggestions, please let me know. I will check the cylinders, and thanks for your link, Sandrock.

Maybe it'* me, but prior to plugging in the fuse, I experienced a bit of brake pedal pulsation during heavy braking, almost felt like a bent rotor. After plugging in the ABS fuse, the pulsation is less. Is this a good sign?

Your ABS light should light during initial start for bulb check. So either it has burned out or someone pinched it before you got the car...I would def. get yourself a new bulb in there just to be on the safe side. If it IS a WSS, this will help you narrow the field down. (Though it won't help you ID which one it is).
