Default 2000 3800 Series II in '95 Bonne

My first post here so go easy...

I've fallen victim to the dreaded intake leak, although coolant never reached the oil it hydro-locked #1 and bent the conn rod.

I have found a good deal on a low mileage 2000 3800 in an Impala and was wondering what the differences are and if I can drop it into my '95 Bonneville. They are both Vin-K motors.

My main concern is the bolt patern for the tranny and motor mounts, and then of course would be the sensor locations and connectors. I'm not too concerned about the accessories as they all look to be similar, possibly just a change in the brackets.

Any insight would be appreciated

i wouldn't want to... last i checked the 3800 in the impala puts out 200HP and 225 ft/lb so you would take a hit of 5 in HP and torque...
The reason why it puts out less power is because the intake and the exahaust being more restrictive, I has nothing to do with the engine itself. They are both Vin K so it should mostly be a straight swap.

Hi

The "W" Impala has the dreaded "U-bend" pipe for the secondary O2 sensor. Since it is so restrictive...that alone is worth 2-5 hp by swapping to a straight piece.

The engines are identical..if any differences in sensors/locations...just swap sensors from the orig. engine.

I have a 1995 and was forced to replace my engine and transaxle. Yes abuse was the cause.

Anyway it was fairly easy and I used the extra bolts left over to throw at bad drivers.

I am now threw my new transaxle and the engine is still going strong.

Just be sure to swap over all your major management systems and parts.

Ty

Thanks for the replies.

Dropped the cash today, or should I say plastic.

38,000 on engine, should be able to pick it up next week.

This should get Mama back on the road again...

Thanks again.

the maf tables are different between the 1995-1998 L36 and the 99+ L36... just make sure you put your old throttle body on the new engine and all should be fine
