97 Bonneville SSE 40th anniversary ed
Hi everyone just picked up a really clean 97 sse 40th ann edition dirt cheap with a bad tranny. Was wondering if a ser 2 supercharged engine will drop in without any mods since i have to pull out the motor anyway with the trans. Thanks will post pics tomorrow.

A different harness and pcm are not needed. You can add to your harness and reprogram the pcm. I've found this out to be an easier method from having done a few swaps.
The 96-99 Bonnevilles all had the same motor and bracketry to the average observer and would all drop in w/o much work at all.
Any Series 2 motor will go in easily if you swap the alternator and it'* bracket, AC bracket and the rear exhaust manifold with your existing ones. The coil packs and bracket/tensioner would need to be from an SSEi 96-03.
Wiring wise you would need a wiring kit available from Intense-Racing or ZZP for about $25-$30.
Your pcm would need to be reprogrammed for the supercharged tables etc with the correct transmission gear ratio.
Your transmission would be a weak point, but an output shaft, differential, diff cover and different passenger axle would turn yours into an HD version.
Tada..you would have a full supercharged car as it would have come from the factory if it had been made that way.

No, it'* not. The SC vehicle has a fuel pump module that the NA doesn't among some other items. This would kick on a few different DTC lights if not programmed properly. Dropping in a different pcm will also have a different VIN#, w/o knowing what state he'* in and it'* emissions laws, it would be hasty to not warn about the potential for emissions/state law issues by showing up with the wrong vin in the pcm.

This is starting to look like a tennis match, my necks getting tired going back and forth. I see alot of good info floating here, and when the kinks iron out, somebody want to make a "How To" thread. please?

You bring up a good point Bill. I had not thought about the vin. In both cases he will need a tuner. Unless he gets a programed PCM with a performance tune. The vin can be set at that time. In both cases the PCM would need to be dealt with.

We all have to start at the rookie point. In time it gets better. I think one point that was made here is, if your going to do much more then simple mods a tuner is the best money you can spend.
