I currently own a 93 bonneville SE and have had substantial problems with the brake system. I have had all of the brake work done at the dealer so I am fairly sure that the work was done correctly. I have actually lost the brakes on the cars twice due to faulty, leaking wheel cylinders. My question now is actually about squealing front braks. I have had problems with the front brakes squealing all of the time and figured that it would be taken care of when I had my next brake job. Just this past week, I had new front rotors and pads put on, and new back pads. The brakes sounded fine for about 2 days (not that much mileage), and have already started squealing again. I have sprayed out the wheels to remove any brake dust. It is a very high pitched squeal that is somewhat annoying. It only squeals when I am coming to a stop or applying the brakes at lower speeds. Not at speeds around 40 - 50 mph. Does anyone have any experience with a problem like this or any suggestions? The last 2 brake jobs I had done on it also started squealing very soon after I had them done, but this time I took it to a different dealer and still had the same problem. I go through front brakes like crazy on this car and do not think that it is entirely due to my driving style. I appreciate any insight into this problem. Thank you

I have '97 SE. Same problem. Any time I was changing front brakes ( cut or change rotors) they would start squeal in a week or so. I believe mine were bendix semi-metallic all the time. At first they would start burning and then squealing.
Last job that I've done is to change caliper on the right and caliper Kit on the left, left wheel bearing and both front rotors(GM) and metallic pads. Those rotors sucked and car was shacking when stopping on speed over 65mph. Shop have put new GM rotors and problem was gone. So I wouldn't really trust a dealer in this case, cause they putting the same parts that GM produces.

The next brake job.....RSM rotors from Domestic Performance, and ceramic pads. No question. Quiet, dust free, and major hot brake stopping power. Even good wet stops. GREAT wet stops. Can't say enough about these brakes.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I am going to take it back to the dealer to have them take a look at how it is wearing already since it is squealing after only 6 days. I hope I can somehow get this resolved without dropping a lot more money into it right now.

Thanks also for the reccomendation for the next type of pads to put on. I will definately have to think about that for the next set (which if the trend on this set continues, may not be that far off). I have never done a brake job myself but do have some friends that know what they are doing. Is it fairly easy to replace the front pads on the bonnie even without a lot of experience working on cars? I saw some directions online for how to do it and it did not seem to difficult, but I was worried about messing with the brake system.

Absolute piece of cake. I do mine blistering drunk. Ask anybody if you don't believe me. When I put my RSM'* on, I had my 'kills' lined up in the pic. It'* posted here somewhere.

Don't put Ceramic pads on the stock GM rotors unless you want the excuse to replace the rotors later

You need a good rotor like the RSM at DP or the Powerslot at ADTR to withstand the abuse. For a first-timer, the front brakes should take a beginner no more than 2 hours taking your sweet time (which is highly reccommended for the first time). It'* actually very rewarding. Good confidence builder.

With the information I have gotten from you guys I definately think that I will have to do my next brake job myself. Besides taking my time and being able to know that it is done right (well hopefully do it right), I could also save quite a bit of money on the labor I am sure.
